Violence and extremism have escalated in Pakistan as a result of a growing intolerance for variety and weak state capacity to prevent, manage, and resolve conflict. In order to examine the effectiveness of media, the arts, culture, and education as engagement instruments for peacebuilding, the U.S. Institute of Peace collaborates with a network of regional organisations. The Institute also supports projects to strengthen democratic institutions and governance, focuses on police and judiciary reform, and encourages women’s participation in security sector policies. Policymakers and practitioners can find advice from evidence-based research and analysis.
