The Marrakesh Agreement Establishing the World Trade Organization (WTO) is an international treaty that serves as the foundational document of the WTO. It was adopted on April 15, 1994, in Marrakesh, Morocco, and entered into force on January 1, 1995. The preamble of the agreement sets out the objectives and principles upon which the WTO is based. The preamble of the Marrakesh Agreement sets the tone for the WTO’s commitment to promoting global economic cooperation, sustainable development, and the principles of the multilateral trading system.
